Creating your own art can be a fun and fulfilling hobby. Whether you paint, sculpt, or draw, you can look on a completed piece with the knowledge that you made it.

You will probably take a great amount of pride in your work. You may even wish to invite others you know to view your art.

There is a bit of a difference between having a private collection of your own pieces and having a display in a gallery. The general public often has a chance to view the works that are displayed in an art gallery.

Deciding to put your work in a gallery is a matter of personal preference for you as the artist. You may not be comfortable with having your work so openly exposed to the public eye.

If you do, however, decide to try to put some of your work on display in a gallery, you will need to take some time to consider your options. There are many choices available in regards to art galleries.

One of the first things to consider is why you want to display you art. Are you trying to make a name for yourself, or are you trying to sell some pieces?

Different galleries focus on different motifs in their displays. Some will only want new artists to enter pieces to be displayed.

Most galleries of this type will only take a few of your pieces for display. In this case, you will have to decide which of your pieces will allow you to put your best foot forward.

The owners of this type of establishment attempt to create displays that will cause galleries that sell for a higher price to take on the new artists that are being displayed. If a new artist is taken on, a commission will be paid to the owner.

This is probably the best option for a new artist. Having your work displayed in a higher priced gallery at the beginning of your career is unlikely.

Most of these establishments will only display works from certain artists. Other artists are not usually admitted, and, if they are admitted, it must be by invitation.

Your best chance of getting into such an establishment is to display in a gallery for new artists. If, however, you want to sell many of your works, you should try to get into a show gallery.

This type brings together the works of many different artists and then attempts to sell them. You should produce about 15 pieces that will be displayed initially.

These pieces will need to be replaced quickly if sold, so you should send at least twice as many pieces. With luck, your works will sell.

If, however, you want to display your art in a context that is more local, you can search around in your town for a place where art is shown. Such an establishment will probably not advertise your work for you, but will still allow sale transactions to occur.

If you want to put your art on exhibit and tell your friends and family about it, this is probably the option for you. All you will need to do is apply and wait for your space to be assigned.

When attempting to get an exhibit placed in any of these locations, it is vital that you be humble. Being overly egotistical about your work will only make others not want to deal with you.

Be practical about how much to ask for your paintings, sculptures, or drawings. Being reasonable is especially important if you want to sell your works.

Although they may be particularly beautiful, no one will want to buy a ridiculously priced piece of art. You will sell more work by keeping your prices realistic.

Take the time to decide what it is you want to accomplish by exhibiting your art. When you have determined your motivation, you can begin your search for a gallery that will help you to accomplish your goal.

You art is important to you, and it should be shared with the general public. Finding the right venue for its display will make all the difference for you as the artist.

Whether or not your work is accepted by your gallery of first choice, you will establish valuable connections in the art world. These connections will help you to develop you art and become more widely known.
